The South Carolina Gamecocks entered the 2014 season as the favorites in the Southeastern Conference’s East division and left with six losses and a fifth-place finish. Fresh off the team’s worst season since 2009, head coach Steve Spurrier must prepare for another slate of tough games.

Presidential candidates have been ducking their brothers for years. Jimmy Carter had Billy, who spent his time promoting Billy Beer and urinating on airport runways. Bill Clinton had Roger, a musician and actor who the Secret Service nicknamed “Headache.” It just seems odd the brother in the midst of being stowed away for 2016 is a former two-term President.

Georgia adds Ohio State football signee

It may be July, but it’s not too late for Georgia to add to its 2015 recruiting class.

Mirko Jurkovic Jr., a six-foot-five, 276-pound offensive offensive lineman, announced his commitment to Georgia via Twitter on July 6. Jurkovic had been committed to Ohio State since Dec. 4 and was part of the Buckeyes’ class that Rivals.com ranked ninth in the nation.

The early signs: College football flirts with the idea of an early signing day

Verbal agreements in the business world don’t guarantee much. They are worth even less in college football recruiting.

College coaches can extend written offers to high school players from Aug. 1 until the first Wednesday in February, aside from a month-long dead period in mid-December. One of the most useful tactics for recruits is verbally committing, which means the player pledges to attend a school. The problem is these commitments are non-binding until pen hits paper on National Signing Day, which leads to chaos when players back out.

Conference reconstruction inevitable for college football

This week marks the five-year anniversary of one of the strangest times in the history of college football.

In a matter of days, Nebraska and Colorado bolted from the Big 12, Texas and Oklahoma flirted with other conferences and Utah moved up from the Mountain West to join the Pac-10. The strange summer of 2010 set off moves that are still happening, and at this point 34 Football Bowl Subdivision teams have new homes, and one conference — the Western Athletic Conference — no longer exists.

For Georgia and Georgia Tech, all is fair in hate and rivalries

Georgia Tech ruffled a few feathers around Athens this week when they revealed the rings that football players from the 2014 team would receive. The feature that fans found noteworthy was the emblem of the state of Georgia with the words “State Champs” nestled in the middle, a clear shot at Georgia and the Yellow Jackets’ 30-24 win over the Bulldogs last November.
