Social Media: @redblacksports

I took over as Red & Black sports editor in December 2015 following the graduation of the previous editor. One of my top initiatives was to revamp the sports desk’s Twitter account, which had not been utilized in previous years.

The main strategy I took while running the social media account was to make sure every story on the website had its own tweet. By using bitly., I could measure how popular some stories were on Twitter and gauge how the tweet was written to see if a similar format should be used going forward.

The numbers below speak for themselves.

As you can see, our followers continued to rise day after day. Here’s a more specific look starting with Feb.7, which came four days after our successful National Signing Day.

On my final day as sports editor on May 13, the account had surpassed the 2,300 follower mark.

Looking back at mid-December, the account had approximately 200 impressions per day. On my last day as editor, the account was up to 4,000 impressions per day.

Here’s a specific look at February 2015, which I believe was our biggest month due to the hoopla surrounding National Signing Day. We tweeted 430 times in a span of 29 days and successfully added 115 followers.
