Reggie Davis is moving on.
Davis had his best game as a Georgia Bulldog last Saturday, ending the game with 244 all-purpose yards, one touchdown reception and one punt return touchdown. However, his drop on a would-be 56-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter could have tied the game up 38-38. Instead, the Bulldogs left Knoxville with a seven-point loss.
Even though he was clearly distraught after the game, Davis now sounded like he was over what occurred.
“After this past weekend, I just really needed to get back on the field so I could get my mind off a lot of things,” Davis said. “It’s been rough, but I’ll bounce back.”
Davis said he heard from many people after the game, some with pleasant messages and some with ill intent. He accepted the aftermath of the game with a smile, seemingly comfortable with the words thrown in his direction. He was also more accepting of the quality game he produced before the drop, a clear change from Saturday night.
“It was a good performance, but it would have felt a lot better if we had won,” Davis said. “I’m thankful for [the performance], but it always feels better when you get a win.”
It’s a good thing Davis has pushed past the adversity. As teammate Malcolm Mitchell explained earlier this week, he cannot afford to dwell on the past.
“He better [be over the drop] by this afternoon,” Mitchell said. “We have practice.”
